Update: Poppy Appeal 2009

On Wednesday 24th February 2010, McCarthy Cars held a cheque presentation for the Poppy Appeal 2009; attendees were Michael Lyons from the New Addington, Royal British Legion,Stephanie Davenport from Community Fund raiser in South East, Royal British Legion, Paul Martyniuk from the Croydon Advertiser,Mrs. P McCarthy and Dan Bull from the McCarthy Cars.

McCarthy Cars show their Support for Local Heroes

Between the months of October and November 2009, McCarthy Cars made a pledge to donate,to The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, £25 from every car sold, raising in total £5,000.

Michael Lyons from the Royal British Legion, New Addington was contacted by Karen Jones who made arrangements for the Cheque Presentation that was held at McCarthy Cars 72- 74 Mitcham Road.

Mr.Lyons, in a formal statement, stated that,

“Every year our Poppy Appeal has its own surprises, this year has been no different.We received a phone call from Mrs McCarthy, a lady we had not had the pleasure of meeting before, requesting Poppy collection boxes and the promise that every car sold between the months of October and November 2009, McCarthy Cars (UK) Ltd will donate £25 per vehicle to The Royal British Legion.

This Year the biggest surprise of all came with phone call from Karen Jones informing me of the £5,000 they had raised, which is the biggest donation we have received in our history of the New Addington- The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeals, a record which will be hard to beat.

To raise such an amount takes a lot of hard work, dedication and belief in the cause the money is being raised for.

I would like to thank, on the behalf of The Royal British Legion- New Addington, most sincerely Mrs McCarthy from McCarthy Cars and everybody who helped make this generous donation possible, you have our undying gratitude.

The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to those serving and who have served in the Armed Forces along with their families for the rest of their lives.

Stephanie Davenport, from The Royal British Legion,said

‘The Legion is the UK’s leading service charity. Without the support of local businesses, like McCarthy Cars, we wouldn't be able to provide the necessary welfare services needed by those brave individuals that have served for us in the past and are serving for us now.’
