CARING FOR THE INTERIOR OF YOUR CAR

Keeping your car clean on the inside is just as important as maintaining the bodywork and wheels. It improves more than just the appearance – a tidy, uncluttered interior means a lower likelihood of damage to the upholstery and vents.

The key is to clear up regularly and often. When dirt and rubbish start to gather inside the car, the idea of getting in and removing it becomes less appealing. Make the effort, however, and the cleanliness of your vehicle will enhance both its looks and performance.

1. Prepare for the task

Even before you start tidying, make sure you have the best tools for the job. The textiles and surfaces in the car may well need to be cleaned with specialist liquids or brushes. This is as important as choosing the right type of engine oil. If you are unsure what you need to clean your car properly, please get in touch with us.

2. Freshen up fabrics

Upholstery and other fabric surfaces are a good place to start when cleaning your car. Take a hand vacuum and make sure you get into corners, cushions, armrests and the stitching. Fabrics can typically be wiped with a warm, soapy sponge, and leather needs to be maintained with conditioner once it’s been washed down. Be sure not to use too much water in either case, as this will take longer to dry and could affect the seat underneath.

3. Inspect trims from every angle

Pay attention to your dashboard and the centre console, as there may be a mix of plastic and metal finishes to take care of. A wet cloth is the best thing to use – dry cloths, kitchen roll and brushes are likely to leave scratches.

4. Get clever to get into hard-to-reach areas

Footwells and air vents can be some of the most difficult bits to clean. Lint rollers, cotton buds and even toothbrushes could do the trick. As with your care for other interior fabrics, be sure not to scratch the surfaces while you clean.
