Overall paw score: 3.5 out of 5.
The Lexus RX features a minimum-capacity 453-litre space, which is compromised somewhat by the angle of the tailgate window and door. The rear seats can be tilted forwards, which does help in this regard but, overall, the vehicle is perhaps best suited for medium-size dogs.
The boot floor is relatively high, which might make access for smaller, older and less mobile pets a problem. Nevertheless, the boot floor is helpfully flush with the tailgate opening. The vehicle is fitted with a scratch-resistant step too, which prevents damage being caused by doggy claws.
A removable carpet floor ensures that cleaning is a cinch. There’s also under-floor storage – ideal for keeping canine essentials in one place.
Most RX models are fitted privacy glass, which significantly helps to keep the rear of the car cool. If the particular variant you are considering doesn’t come with this feature, please contact us to learn how it can be installed.
Securing your dog
Four metal tie-down loops are provided with the RX, which make it easy to safely fit a dog cage.
A variety of different dog guards are available for this vehicle, to suit pets of all sizes – please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice and recommendations.
If ever you need to leave your pet unattended for a minute or two, the RX’s internal sensors can be disarmed. This means that your dog can’t set off the alarm during your brief absence.
